Dan Innes hasn't spoken with his daughter, Charlie, for two years. The first news he's had of her is a call from the British embassy in Thailand, informing him that his daughter is in a Chiang-Mai prison on charges of drug smuggling. Dan's shock and anger is rivaled only by a primal desire to rescue his estranged child -- and within days he journeys to the strange, mysterious land. He arrives at the prison -- questions and reprimands running through his head -- but his visit is inconclusive, and he soon finds himself following the faintest of trails in the lawless mountain region near the Myanmar border where opium grows in abundance.
