Reviews:
"It's a testament to the strength of the performances and of Wright's staging that the film retains its emotional urgency." - 10/01/2012 Sight and Sound

3.5 stars out of 4 -- "[T]hanks to director Joe Wright, ANNA KARENINA lifts off into the wild blue of the imagination..." - 11/22/2012 Rolling Stone

"It is risky and ambitious enough to count as an act of artistic hubris, and confident enough to triumph on its own slightly -- wonderfully -- crazy terms." - 11/16/2012 New York Times

"From a filmmaking perspective, it's a gorgeous shadowbox of a production, filmed largely in a single location..." - 11/16/2012 Movieline

4.5 stars out of 5 -- "[A] masterpiece of moving pieces, a dizzying and obscenely beautiful film that boils down Tolstoy's text to its most basic elements by making literal the theater of high society." - 11/12/2012 Box Office

"[An] ingenious, intoxicating adaptation of Leo Tolstoy’s novel, in which the author’s dense tale of love, adultery, politics and aristocratic manners has been brilliantly re-imagined as light opera." - 11/16/2012 Washington Post

"[A] new adaptation that streamlines the backpack-breaking novel, and most audaciously, stages its action as a stage production that doesn’t attempt to hide its own theatricality." - 11/15/2012 A.V. Club

"[Stoppard] supplies an excellently clean, delicately balanced script." - 11/23/2012 Entertainment Weekly
