Canyon Ranch co-medical director Hyman (The Blood Sugar Solution) returns with a program to eradicate the food addictions he says inevitably lead to major health problems. Hyman offers a clear-cut if restrictive plan that addresses food addiction and how it's been promoted by the food industry, with detailed explanations of what you can and cannot eat, as well as recipes. In addition, the author discusses how to prepare your mind, body, and kitchen to embark on the plan, and ways to transition into a long-term program of wellness. Hyman's condemnation of the food industry may be on target, and his advice backed by research, but the plan's required banishment of so many foodstuffs, such as sugars (natural and artificial), dairy, and all grains (including gluten-free products), may be difficult for many readers to follow. However, the short-term nature of the program and its promise of quickly realized benefits—dramatic weight loss, improved sleep, mood, and energy levels, and the minimization of chronic health problems like diabetes, joint pain, autoimmune diseases, and sinus and allergy issues—mean Hyman won't be short of willing takers.
