Katz’s roundheaded babies are on the move and on the lookout for bugs. “What are those hiding on the windowsill?” Katz writes in the opening scene; a gap in the plaid curtains (which lift up) offers a glimpse of the red-and-black answer (“Lots of little ladybugs!”). Dressed in overalls, jumpers, and rain gear, babies discover caterpillars, bees, ants, fireflies, and an “itsy-bitsy spider” on the following pages. While the book is mainly about discovery and introducing a few basic arthropods, the varying numbers of bugs underneath the flaps create opportunities for counting and other interactive interplay between adults and children. Ages 1–4. (Jan.)
