Overview
Excerpt from From Moses to Qumran: Studies in the Old Testament

F OR some years I have been requested by many friends to publish a volume of collected essays, and have only delayed to respond to the request because I lacked the time to prepare them for re-issue. Even now it has been impossible to give them the sort Of revision I should have liked. The text is only slightly modified here and there, but I have made a number Of addi tions to the footnotes, taking some account Of publications which have been issued Since these studies first appeared. It has been impossible to do this as thoroughly as I could have wished, and I express in advance my regret for any important omission. TO make reference to everything that has appeared with any bearing on the many subjects here touched on would have given to these essays an encyclopaedic character that I cannot hope to achieve.
