Overview

A down-on-their-luck punk band accept an offer to play a rural Oregon club before calling their failing tour quits. When they arrive at the venue, they're troubled by the large neo-Nazi presence, but go through with their set regardless. They retreat to the backstage room afterward, only to be greeted by the corpse of a young woman on the floor and the neo-Nazis standing above her. Fearful that the band will contact the authorities, the gang hold them hostage as their leader (Patrick Stewart) tries to think of a solution to this sticky situation. Soon, the bandmates are fighting for their lives as they attempt to escape the club. Anton Yelchin, Imogen Poots, and Alia Shawkat star in this violent cat-and-mouse thriller from BLUE RUIN director Jeremy Saulnier.

Reviews:
"[T]he film has a smart grasp on the hand-to-mouth lifestyle of road dogs, and a stronger sense of the lingo and sweatbox atmosphere of divey punk bars." -- Grade: A- - 04/14/2016 A.V. Club

"Economically paced, and gorgeous....[Saulnier] does a fine job of getting viewers to stay in whatever moment they're in through a series of engrossing tracking shots and long takes." - 04/15/2016 RogerEbert.com

"[D]emonically gripping....It's the latest tense, brutal genre triumph for writer-director Jeremy Saulnier..." - 04/14/2016 Los Angeles Times

"Though GREEN ROOM takes place in the smartphone-enabled present and assembles a cast of talented millennials, it explores a venerable subcultural terrain." - 04/14/2016 New York Times

"What makes GREEN ROOM more than just a giddy, gory slice of gonzo B-movie mayhem, however, is both its ace cast and the vise-tightening mastery of the man pulling the strings behind the camera." -- Grade: A- - 04/12/2016 Entertainment Weekly

3 stars out of 4 -- "GREEN ROOM is a high-tension siege thriller spiced with black humor." - 04/13/2016 Rolling Stone

"A riotous, rough-hewn and rousing punk reinvention of ’70s-style grindhouse exploitation-with-a-brain-cinema." - 04/18/2016 Empire

"[W]riter-director Jeremy Saulnier opted to draw from his younger days in the hard-core punk rock scene and create an intense action thriller, a rough-and-tumble siege film that is more in the spirit of punk rock than it is about punk rock itself." - 04/21/2016 Los Angeles Times

"GREEN ROOM is brutal, exploitive, nerve-wracking, and bloody as hell. It’s also one of the best pure genre movies to come down the highway in many a moon..." - 04/21/2016 Boston Globe

"GREEN ROOM uses its extremist tropes to unpick the more insidious mainstream rhetoric of the American right..." - 05/15/2016 The Guardian
