Overview
Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. Intellectual disabilities are defined as mental disorders ranging from mental retardation to those with intellectual deficits and learning disabilities. The Special Olympics were created by Anne McGlone Burke, a physical education teacher, with help from Eunice Kennedy Shriver and the Joseph P. Kennedy Jr. Foundation. The Special Olympics is now an international organization held every two years whose goal is to give a sporting platform to those with intellectual disabilities. Disabled sports include anyone with a disability, whether physical or intellectual. These sports are often modified to meet the needs of the disabled, while others are created with the specific intention of being for those with disabilities. This book explores the Special Olympics and its history, plus disabled sports as a whole and specific sports such as blind golf, wheelchair rugby, and more. Project Webster represents a new publishing paradigm, allowing disparate content sources to be curated into cohesive, relevant, and informative books. To date, this content has been curated from Wikipedia articles and images under Creative Commons licensing, although as Project Webster continues to increase in scope and dimension, more licensed and public domain content is being added. We believe books such as this represent a new and exciting lexicon in the sharing of human knowledge.
