The Historical Atlas of West Virginia
by Frank S. Riddel

Overview - Few reference works are as valuable to both scholars and nonscholars as a historical atlas, so it is, perhaps, a foregone conclusion that the West Virginia historical atlas will be a title for libraries, schools, and every West Virginian who wants to understand how historical forces are mapped onto the state's terrain, and how the distribution of natural resources intersects with markets and other means of distribution.  Read more...

Overview
Few reference works are as valuable to both scholars and nonscholars as a historical atlas, so it is, perhaps, a foregone conclusion that the West Virginia historical atlas will be a title for libraries, schools, and every West Virginian who wants to understand how historical forces are mapped onto the state's terrain, and how the distribution of natural resources intersects with markets and other means of distribution. Frank Riddel's A Historical Atlas of West Virginia is copiously illustrated with maps, tables, and charts illustrating everything from geological deposits and strata that have fed the state's industries to the settlement patterns of the immigrants who settled in West Virginia. Using federal and state statistics, it also includes revelations from the national census figures since 1790. A Historical Atlas of West Virginia has been a career-long project of its author, Frank S. Riddel, who is a professor emeritus of Marshall University where he teaches West Virginia history. The John Deaver Drinko Academy for American Political Institutions and Civic Culture at Marshall University is pleased to contribute to the publication of Dr. Frank S. Riddel's A Historical Atlas of West Virginia.
