This book is not a "follow the rules" instruction manual, instead the author had taken a gloves off approach, finding what Multi Level Marketing (also known as Network Marketing) involves and what it means to a new business person. It describes what the model looks like when it is stripped down. It works through whether it is a hoax, a scam or a genuine opportunity. The book starts when the author wants to start a business but does not know what to do. Then when he was offered an opportunity, it initially sends him running scared. He believed that this thing called Network Marketing was an offer that was 'too good to be true.' But he then had a rethink. He describes his thoughts, feelings and then his research process that he went through before he decided to get his hands dirty, finding out what Network Marketing is really all about. He decided he is going to find out what it is like on the 'inside' and joins a local team. His experience over the time he ran his MLM business before writing this book gave him the honest 'warts an all' look at the MLM model. He discovered a lot, mainly that he only got paid for his results, only 'professional' effort equals a reward. He discovered what worked and what didn't, he describes how he struggled to grow his business then realised that he was putting his efforts in the 'wrong' direction. How he discovered the right path which was due to the work and support he was offered by his Sponsor, Paul. He records his Sponsors actions and is surprised when his own team starts to grow. He recognises what a 'good' Sponsor means and how successful he can be by sticking to a few simple rules, all he needed to do was understand what was required of him. This book was not written to rival the greats of 'Big Al' or our UK equivalent 'Wes Linden.' Instead this grass roots book describing the MLM model, it shows the benefits of the sales commission structure, using a fictional Company. It compares the 'normal' sales job with the role of a self-employed Distributor and much more. Carl's book provides a basic level of knowledge and information that you will need to know whilst you start up your business. With the examples in this book, the author believes you can produce the same results in your own business. Along with what he found worked well in his business, Carl offers something extra that other books do not mention. This book gives you the business advice and support that you will need to know when setting up your business. The book will help you with tax matters, business sense and knowing what setting 'Goals' really means. He gives marketing ideas, such as naming your business and where you can advertise. Many people start their part time businesses with high hopes and enthusiasm. Reading and understanding the basic examples found in this book will boost your confidence and knowledge. Your new found confidence will propel you over many of the stumbling blocks that other Distributors will find themselves stuck behind.
