However, her scheming is complicated by the sudden appearance of her teenage daughter Frederica (Morfydd Clark), and soon the two women are caught up in a love rectangle with a courtier (Xavier Samuel) and a suitor who's as rich as he is stupid (Tom Bennett). Chloë Sevigny co-stars as a friend of Susan's who tries to help with her matchmaking. Written and directed by Whit Stillman (who adapted the script from an early work by Jane Austen), LOVE & FRIENDSHIP made its world premiere at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival.

Reviews:
"[T]he cast is having a splendid time. Beckinsale is the main attraction, delivering hilariously cutting lines with the casual cheeriness of someone who can’t even conceive of caring what others might think of her." -- Grade: B - 05/12/2016 A.V. Club

3.5 stars out of 4 -- "It's a richly funny people-watching film, one that happens to contain possible romantic pairings." - 05/13/2016 RogerEbert.com

"LOVE & FRIENDSHIP more than delivers on the comedy of manners front, but it’s also a very funny, unapologetic portrait of a diabolically clever woman..." - 05/12/2016 Los Angeles Times

3.5 stars out of 4 -- "LOVE & FRIENDSHIP passes with flying colors....[A] wickedly modern romantic comedy..." - 05/12/2016 Rolling Stone

"It’s the Whit Stillman movie that some of us have been waiting a long time for, and also a Jane Austen movie that goes some way toward correcting the record of dull and dutiful cinematic Janeism." - 05/12/2016 New York Times

"Stillman gives the romantic roundelay a deliciously modern feminist twist..." -- Grade: B+ - 05/12/2016 Entertainment Weekly

"Beckinsale rises to a splendid occasion, making us privy to Lady Susan’s manipulations while presenting a glamorous front that blinds all of the men." - 05/19/2016 Boston Globe

4 stars out of 5 -- "Stillman brings the slightly inaccessible source material to the big screen with crowd-pleasing panache....Kate Beckinsale is superb..." - 05/29/2016 The Guardian

5 stars out of 5 -- "An intricate plot is peppered with laugh-out-loud cynical throwaways and a degree of suspense as the wicked, self-involved, peculiarly admirable antiheroine tries to get her way." - 05/26/2016 Empire
