More than 100 nursery rhymes, songs, and poems are contained in this heavy, chunky book organized into eight sections according to subject matter (Little Jack Horner offers “Favorite Food Rhymes,” while Wee Willie Winkle is responsible for “Bedtime Rhymes”). A variety of artists—including Daniel Howarth, Louise Ho, Gail Yerrill, and Gill Guile—lend their work to the project (many images derive from previously published picture books), resulting in a miscellany of art styles that range from hazy pastels to heavy blocks of bright colors. The brunt of the entries will be familiar to readers (“Over in the Meadow,” “Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes,” “Little Boy Blue”), but a few newer poems and a couple of short stories are also nestled amid the classics. Plenty of material for months of bedtime reading. Available simultaneously: 5 Minute Farm Tales. Ages 3–7. (Sept.)
