Who turned out the lights at the North Pole? By moving the beam of a cardboard flashlight underneath an acetate sheet, readers can illuminate Santas workshop, the night sky, and one of the houses he visits, all while trying to locate candy canes, scarves, presents, cookies, and dozens of other holiday-themed objects hidden within Grays illustrations. In addition to lists of objects to find, Golding provides verbal prompts and extra challenges (Santas dog is being naughty. Where is he?). The flashlight gimmick, previously seen in Moonlight Animals and other titles, is as well-executed as it is fun and should easily keep children occupied in the lead-up to Christmas. Ages 48. (Sept.)
