Overview
While flying hopelessly outmoded fighters during the Nazi invasion of Poland in 1939, a handful of Polish pilots managed to inflict serious damage before being overwhelmed. After escaping to exile, several of these pilots were ordered to Great Britain, where they formed Polish squadrons that played a significant role in the skies over Western Europe and North Africa. By 1945, 60 Polish pilots had achieved ace status with the RAF.

In this, the twenty-first installment of the Aircraft of the Aces series, 51 pieces of specially commissioned artwork detail all of the major fighters used by these Polish aces -- the Hurricane, Spitfire, P-51, and P-47 among them. Also included are black-and-white photographs sourced from archives in Poland. An expertly written text includes interviews with several of the aces and explains the conflicts in which they were involved and the tactics they used.
