Overview
With more than 15,000 4- and 5-star ratings, an average of 35 messages per day, and hundreds of thousands of profile views from interested suitors, Lauren Urasek was dubbed the most sought-after woman in the city by New York magazine. She then started a popular Tumblr detailing her experiences with Prince Charmings (and Not-So-Charmings), and now tells all in a series of frank, funny essays about the ups and downs of dating in the city that never sleeps. She's run the gamut of the nominally "single and ready to mingle" males of New York City, from dudes who went in for a kiss within the first ten minutes to one who conducted an impromptu "girlfriend job interview." And in between the horror stories and dating disasters, Lauren shares some real talk about what works--and what doesn't. Urasek's take on love and romance in the age of the right swipe will make anyone who's ever tried Internet dating laugh, cringe, or both.
Lauren's 22 essays are punctuated by cheeky yet informative sidebars on
- Red flags you should NEVER ignore
- Quirky/weird/offbeat ways to find out whether a guy's not right for you
- The 15 WORST usernames
- A comparison between different online dating services (OKCupid, Tinder, Match, etc.)
- And much more

Declared by New York Magazine to be the most messaged woman on OKCupid, makeup artist Urasek provides advice on successfully navigating online dating and humorously shares her own experiences in that world. Her stories involve the inevitable married man, a brief stint with a sugar daddy, and a fling with a prominent comedian, which reads like a Page Six blind item. Some of Uraseks friends weigh in on their own dating insanity, from the woman who had a gun pulled on her by a heretofore congenial stoner, to one whose suitor turned out to be a neo-Nazi. Urasek also includes guidance for creating the most effective online profile, makeup tips, and, in a recurring feature called They Really Said This, some of the worst messages she has ever received on OKCupid. Her list of dating red flags is persuasive if not terribly original. In fact, much of the material is familiar, not surprisingly given the plethora of books on online dating. Certain aspects of Uraseks narrative persona are grating, such as her critical comments about other womens appearances, which sit uneasily alongside her defense of feminism. Still, there are laugh-out-loud moments: the story of the date texting her from the bathroom is worth sticking around for. Agent: Jessica Regel, Foundry Literary + Media. (Oct.)
