"Gayle Callen is wonderful "
--Cathy Maxwell

USA Today bestseller Gayle Callen is not only a longtime favorite among avid readers of historical romance the world over, she's a multiple award-winner as well, having won both the Holt Medallion and the Laurel Wreath Award. With Return of the Viscount, she kicks off a wonderfully sexy series set in Victorian England, where the destinies of three battle-scarred soldiers lead them to the women fated to capture their hearts and heal them. Return of the Viscount once again showcases what Romantic Times calls Callen's "forte," her ability to "entangle readers in a tale that's delightfully sexy, fast paced, and filled with engaging characters who hold your interest until the end." Return of the Viscount is an unforgettable marriage of convenience tale that will enthrall fans of Samantha James and Loretta Chase--the story of a breathtaking love affair between a soldier with a debt to pay and a lady on a quest to unravel her family's secrets.

Callen (Every Scandalous Secret) launches a series with a charming Victorian romance that might be called the case of the mail-order groom. Recently orphaned Lady Cecilia Mallory wants to run her late father’s earldom free of a meddling guardian. Sgt. Michael Blackthorne, a viscount and her father’s best friend, is on permanent assignment in India, and Cecilia thinks he’s her father’s age and likely to “die sooner rather than later, to be blunt about it,” so in a diverting about-face from tradition, Cecilia proposes a marriage by proxy. He consents, as a favor in memory of Lord Apperton. All is well for the fiercely independent Cecilia until Blackthorne is injured and returns to England—specifically, Apperton Hall—to recuperate. Hilarity ensues when Blackthorne encounters the beautiful woman he’d assumed was a plain frump and she meets the ruggedly handsome young man she’d believed was elderly. The lively banter and mild suspense are certain to entertain aficionados of historical romance. (Aug.)
