Overview
If you're new to Lemony Snicket, this boxed set of the first three books is the perfect introduction to his quirky, acclaimed series. Come meet Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire. They are three intelligent children, who are charming and resourceful... and exceptionally unlucky. In the first two books alone, the three youngsters encounter a greedy and repulsive villain, itchy clothing, a disastrous fire, a plot to steal their fortune, a lumpy bed, a deadly serpent, a large brass reading lamp, a long knife, and a terrible odor.

After the sudden death of their parents in The Bad Beginning (Bk. 1), the three Baudelaire children must depend on each other and their wits when it turns out that the distant relative who is appointed their guardian is determined to use any means necessary to get their fortune.

Then in The Reptile Room (Bk. 2), after narrowly escaping the menacing clutches of the dastardly Count Olaf, the three Baudelaire orphans are taken in by a kindly herpetologist with whom they live happily for an all-too-brief time.

In The Wide Window (Bk. 3), the children endure a hurricane, cold cucumber soup, a leaky sailboat, an allergic reaction, a pile of tin cans, and a doll named Pretty Penny. Catastrophes and misfortune continue to plague the Baudelaire orphans after they're sent to live with fearful Aunt Josephine who offers little protection against Count Olaf's treachery.

Never before has a tale of three likable and unfortunate children been quite so enchanting, or quite so uproariously unhappy.
