Overview

A wound of the soul is much easier opened than one of the flesh.
Africa and Appalachia collide in 1865 during a raging snowstorm. Battered and near death, a son of Africa enters the lives of a poor white family in Wolf Creek Kentucky. A free man of Color? A run away Slave? A murderer on the run? A dark stranger called Abraham has many secrets locked within and the only one with a key is a spirited Mountain girl named Corky Bell Burton. Corky is to discover that Abraham is so much more than a man but a force behind the great exodus of Slaves from the South which inspired the Fugitive Slave Act of 1850 and the first African American Secret Agent of the Civil war She unwittingly discovers Abraham's other dark secrets which are best left to the ages. "Shackled" is a piece of Historical Fiction based on actual events. The original Burton family homestead in conjunction with Wolf Creek has long since disappeared like the water that once flowed through its now dry creek bed. The same can not be said of generational scars that Slavery has left behind.
