Elliott packs the first Lords of Midnight Regency romance with plenty of steamy sex and sly innuendo. Lady Alexa Hendrie is a quiet sort who’s resigned herself to being a bluestocking spinster with a peaceful solitary life, but when she sneaks out for a night on the town and ends up winning a share of the earl of Killingworth’s brothel and gambling den, she finds herself in circumstances that are anything but relaxed. Lord Connor is poor and desperate, but acquiring such a devilishly attractive and woefully inexperienced business partner may be too great a risk even for him. As Alexa and Connor flee London to escape vengeful criminals, their mutual attraction sizzles beneath delightful banter. Regency fans will especially appreciate the authentic feel of the historical setting. (Nov.)
