Sir Arthur Ignatius Conan Doyle nacio el 22 de mayo de 1881, en Edimburgo, Escocia; y fallecio el 7 de julio de 1930 en Inglaterra. Graduado como medico naval en 1881, mientras estudiaba comenzo a escribir historias breves, la primera de ellas publicada antes de que cumpliera los 20 anos. Recien en noviembre de 1886, cuando la editorial britanica Ward Lock & Company publico la primera de las aventuras de Sherlock Holmes, Un estudio en escarlata, su autor conocio un anticipo de la repercusion y el reconocimiento que posteriormente le brindaria su inmortal personaje.
