Overview
This lavishly illustrated color catalogue is the record of a magnificent private collection of Dutch and Flemish 17th century cabinet-sized paintings. Assembled over 40 years by Willem, Baron van Dedem, it is regarded as the most important private collection of its kind in the UK. Key paintings are promised gifts to the Mauritshuis in the Hague and the National Gallery in London.

The collection of 61 paintings excels in examples of the naturalism, visual fidelity and technical brilliance for which the painters of the Low Countries are famed. They include landscapes, cityscapes and seascapes; genre and mythological subjects; religious allegories and still lifes. Many of the greatest painters of the time are represented: Kendrik Avercamp, Jan Breughel and Pieter Breughel, Meindert Hobbema, Gabriel Metsu, Rembrandt van Rijn, Solomon von Ruysdael and Jan Steen.

This beautiful book is a fitting tribute to the value and importance of this rare collection, containing many works which have never before been publicly exhibited, but whose publication coincides with an exhibition of the collection at the Mauritshuis in the Hague.
