Creative Writing Scholarship Program

Eligibility

The Books-A-Million Creative Writing Scholarship Program is open to high school freshman, sophomores, juniors and seniors. Books-A-Million employees are eligible to apply if they fit the aforementioned criteria.

Awards

One $5,000.00 scholarship will be awarded annually. If the winning work has been co-authored, both students will receive $2,500.00.

The scholarships will be applied to educational expenses at accredited, nonprofit two or four-year colleges/universities in the United States (hereafter referred to as either colleges or institutions). A student may transfer from one institution to another and retain the award.

PLEASE NOTE! - If you are selected as the recipient of this award, you will be required to sign a "writer's contract" relinquishing all rights to receive any proceeds from the sales of your book/novel.

Submission Requirements

Applicants will be required to submit a children's book or young adult novel. Submission must be an original work of the applicant. Illustrations may be included but are not required. Please send a copy and not original artwork because applications will not be returned. There is not a length requirement for the submission. However, outlines, proposals, and other incomplete works will not be considered.

If you are selected as a winner, you will be required to submit the original piece of work to Books-A-Million in its entirety. Copies will not be accepted.

Students co-authoring a work are required to have both students fill out the online application. Each student should attach their individual cover page and signature page with the submission.
