3 stars out of 4 -- "It has echoes of the original film, and works more with mood and less with cheap scares than either ANNABELLE or THE CONJURING 2, resulting in a truly effective genre flick." - 08/11/2017 RogerEbert.com

"[S]pine-tingling, most will still come away feeling spooked and satisfied." - 08/10/2017 Rolling Stone

"[The director] proves a master of the flash-scare, a nifty choreographer of precipitous timing..." - 08/10/2017 New York Times

"[A] surprisingly effective horror film, which is to say it’s scary in all the smart ways." - 08/10/2017 Chicago Sun-Times

3 stars out of 5 -- "[T]here’s a nicely-sustained sense of menace throughout, some of the jump scares are effective as hell, and it all ties into the rest of the franchise -- sorry, universe -- rather neatly." - 08/08/2017 Empire
