Reviews:
"Lucas Hedges, Nicole Kidman, Russell Crowe and a uniformly splendid supporting cast -- including Edgerton himself as a gay conversion therapist -- deliver the goods in this heart-rending drama." - 09/01/2018 Hollywood Reporter

"Edgerton shows an admirable sense of restraint, even when hitting all the usual beats. He includes moments of quiet introspection for the characters and the audience alike..." - 09/01/2018 Variety

3 stars out of 4 -- "[In an] impressively shot, escalating scene, Edgerton captures the panic-inducing entrapment of Jared with startling tension. For a few moments during that sequence, BOY ERASED almost feels like a thriller." - 11/02/2018 RogerEbert.com

"Crowe and Kidman each get their Oscar-reel moments opposite Hedges in scenes that, rightly, unambiguously demonstrate on whom the burden of change really lies." - 10/29/2018 A.V. Club

3.5 stars out of 5 -- "Kidman brings stirring compassion and a growing strength to a woman who learns about herself the more she learns about her son. And Crowe is magnificent as a believer who can’t quite storm the barricades his faith erects around a true reconciliation with his son." - 10/30/2018 Rolling Stone

3 stars out of 5 -- "BOY ERASED is achingly, even excessively sincere, not least in its determination not to demonise its protagonist’s well-meaning but deluded parents. In his second feature as director, Joel Edgerton casts Nicole Kidman and Russell Crowe in these roles and is rewarded with performances of emotional weight." - 02/04/2019 Total Film

3 stars out of 5 -- "In his adaptation of Garrard Conley’s memoir, Edgerton is clear and direct in depicting not only the insidious and hypocritical nature of so-called ‘ex-gay’ practices, but their banality too." - 02/04/2019 Empire
