The German Shorthaired Pointer is a medium to large sized breed of hunting dog that was developed during the 19th century in Germany. The breed is also commonly known as the 'Deutscher Kurzhaariger, ' the 'Vorstehhund, ' and the 'Kurzhaar.' The German Shorthaired Pointer is a descendant of the German Bird Dog and the Old Spanish Pointer. It is also believed that the breed has traces of hound and tracking dogs: such as the English Pointer and the Arkwright Pointer. The German Shorthaired Pointer was developed to be a versatile hunting breed and gun dog that is capable of hunting both on land and in the water.
