Reviews:
"[Lawrence] holds the screen as the gutsy entrepreneur-in-the-making, irrepressible in the face of constant discouragement....It’s a performance simmering with controlled passion, and a likely awards favourite." - 12/08/2015 Empire

3 stars out of 4-- "It’s obviously a star vehicle for Lawrence, but if anyone deserves a vehicle, she does." - 12/24/2015 RogerEbert.com

"[P]art dark comedy, part dysfunctional family study, part inspirational tale....[With] some memorable set pieces and the best performance by Jennifer Lawrence since her breakout role in WINTER'S BONE..." - 12/20/2015 Chicago Sun-Times

"[Lawrence] again proves she can do anything, moving from comic to tragic without missing a beat." - 12/22/2015 Rolling Stone

"[Lawrence] is the kind of movie star who turns everyone else into a character actor. This is not a complaint but an acknowledgment of both her charisma and her generosity." - 12/24/2015 New York Times

"[T]he splendidly dexterous cast ensures that this goofy success story, which could just easily be titled AMERICAN HUSTLE 2, keeps firing on all cylinders in the manner of the writer-director's previous few outings." - 12/07/2015 Hollywood Reporter

4 stars out of 5 -- "[T]his is another of Russell’s fractured, fractious families....The ace up his sleeve, of course, is Jennifer Lawrence, giving a gritty, gutsy, bewitching performance that’s the match of anything in her career." - 12/28/2015 Total Film

"[T]he person who has most fun is De Niro, who seems -- on the evidence of this and SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK-- to perk up for Russell as for no other director these days." - 12/25/2015 Film Comment

"JOY is a messy marvel, perhaps the most prodigious child yet of the arranged marriage between Russell’s busy, eccentric storytelling style and classic Hollywood form." - 04/24/2016 The Guardian
