Make-Make Machine : A Historical/Sci-Fi Novel
Overview
Miss Eva Rutledge is an attractive young woman and a noted English archaeologist, and along with her aging father Sir Clive Rutledge, an eminent archaeologist in his own right, travel to Easter Island on a archeological exhibition. Once established on the mysterious Pacific island, a local priestess named Angata shows Eva a strange, petrified skull, supposedly that of "Make-Make," the Creator, which is enshrined in a volcanic cave dating back to ancient times. The skull is small and its cranium large and elongated, unlike any she's ever seen before. Later, after a minor earthquake rocks the island, the crater lake of Rano Kao, a dormant volcano, is suddenly drained revealing the crash site of a "fallen star," as the natives call it. Upon closer inspection, Eva Rutledge and her father realize it is an ancient flying machine made of some strange, metallic alloy-perhaps a spaceship of alien origins? Then Admiral Graf Spee and the East Asia Squadron arrives on Easter Island, and soon discovers the hidden "Make-Make Machine" and seizes it in the name of the German Empire. Alas, the world has been cast into chaos after the cataclysmic events of June 28, 1914.
