Marceline Rofit and Chief Charlie Kahla

Overview -
The forbidden romance between South Pacific islanders Wawa (Marie Wawa) and Dain (Mungau Dain) is told from the perspective of Wawa's scampish little sister Selin (Marceline Rofit). When Wawa is ordered to marry into a neighboring tribe as part of a peace offering, the two lovers flee into territories beyond their jungle home. This first feature to be shot on the tropical island of Vanuatu was inspired by a true love story told to Australian directors Bentley Dean and Martin Butler during the seven months they lived among the indigenous Yakel people.

Reviews:
"Named for the remote South Pacific island where it was filmed, TANNA is a movie in which every single shot is picturesque, and more than a few of them are genuinely beautiful." - 09/15/2016 New York Times

"Most surprising are the involving performances of all concerned....Perhaps because the story came directly out of their tradition, they transport us completely to this very different but somehow familiar world." - 09/22/2016 Los Angeles Times

4 stars out of 5 -- "[With] fantastically vital performances from the Yakel-tribe cast....TANNA is an open-throated and universal call for change from within." - 02/16/2017 The Guardian

"Told with captivating simplicity and yet richly cinematic, it combines ethnographic and spiritual elements in a haunting love story with classic undertones, affording a glimpse into a little-known culture." - 09/08/2015 Hollywood Reporter

"[A] stirring tribute to the power of love and will likely prompt many viewers to shed tears of sadness and tears of joy at various points. Wawa is luminous in the central role and has terrific screen chemistry with well cast leading man Dain." - 09/09/2017 Variety
