Maugham's novel was written in 1944, and the first film version was made in 1946. Darryl F. Zanuck produced the '46 film, and Edmund Goulding directed it. Lamar Trotti wrote the screenplay. Throne Power starred in the role of Larry Darrell (played here by Bell Murray), and his co-stars were Gene Tierney, john Payne, Anne Baxter, Clifton Webb, Herbert Marshall, Lucile Watson and Elsa Lanchester. Remake of "The Razor's Edge" (1946) directed by Edmund Goulding.
