Overview -
Sherlock Holmes (Basil Rathbone) tries to recover a top-secret document microfilmed and hidden in a matchbook by a British secret service agent en route to Washington, D.C. The agent is reported missing, and the matchbook has been passed to another passenger on the train without her knowing. The British government asks Holmes and Dr. Watson (Nigel Bruce) to go to Washington and find the microfilm before it falls into the hands of the Nazis. Set during World War II, this is another of the Holmes mysteries to transplant the master sleuth from Victorian crime scenes to the wartime world of international espionage.
