Sharpening the Sword on Mormonism : Mormon Documents, the Bible and the Truth
by Derek R. Crites and F. Russell Crites Jr

Overview -
By following the instructions in this manual, you will be able to study effectively with Mormons. Mormonism has experienced many ups and downs since its beginnings. A number of theological stances have changed over time. This manual will discuss many of the changes, statements that are without question incorrect, and how their works are in disagreement with the Bible. In their works it conveniently states, "We believe the Bible to be the Word of God in so far as it is translated correctly" (Article 8, Articles of Faith). So, whenever the Bible contradicts their works, they believe that the Bible is inaccurate or incomplete. That is why it is difficult to share your Biblical beliefs with a Mormon if they conflict at all with their teachings. It is essential that you understand what they teach so that in love you can show them how the teachings of Mormonism have changed in many cases, how their works actually disagree and how some of the statements made by their founding 'fathers' not only don't make sense, but are simply not true. To do the above it would be helpful if you had copies of the Book of Mormon original and current edition as well as the other documents shown in this work. You will be able to see and 'document' the changes, additions, deletions, etc. that have been made. Most Mormon people are usually very nice, value oriented people who seek to do right. They work hard for their belief and feel strongly about it. When you speak with them it must be in love and your goal should be to help them see how their belief has been built on man-made writings instead of God given truths. This transition alone will take time and a lot of work depending on how deeply each person you speak with has been indoctrinated. With this in mind, it is important that you understand what their works teach, how they are inaccurate, how they conflict, how they make no sense at times and ultimately how they are contrary to Biblical teachings in many cases. Take your time. Learn all you can before you seek to speak with a Mormon friend or acquaintance. The knowledge you gain from this document and other resources may mean spiritual life or death to those you are seeking to help. To better help you, a Mormonism Chain Reference Guide and Explanation of how to use it is in the appendices. There is also a Scripture Chain included that can be used with the chain reference guide to help show what the Bible teaches regarding each belief addressed.
