Today, the Chicago Marine Community and the United States Coast Guard have revived this Christmas Tree Ship tradition. The USCGC Mackinaw brings in Christmas trees on her decks to Chicago, where over 1000 trees are distributed to deserving, less fortunate families with children each year. Navy Pier and the area around the Coast Guard Cutter are filled with bands, carolers and chantey singers to commemorate this joyous holiday tradition, revisited.
