The novella takes place in a small French village, where the mayor rejects a project to build a tech town modeled after Silicon Valley. Driven by his love of nature and a strong nostalgia for the past and beauty, the protagonist Thomas tries everything to stop the project. He meticulously plans what he calls Judgment Day he stocks up on gallons of gasoline and bundles of straw, disguises himself carefully, drives through the snow to burn down the wooden houses and machinery. A local investigation awakens the village, and the story begins to unfold...
