Overview
Cousins is an Argentine novel that tells the story of a girl with aphasia who breaks free from the constraints of her family and becomes a famous painter. Along her journey of growth, she faces a father who abandoned the family, a mother who neglects her, and relatives full of prejudice. Yet, despite all this, she discovers her artistic talent and uncovers family secrets. The language she uses to narrate her inner world is far richer than anything she can express orally; her emotional world is more complex than the world of words she inhabits. As the protagonist overcomes one obstacle after another with remarkable courage and perseverance, she moves further and further away from the universe of the "patient" and steps into the realm of "health" and "sanity," ultimately finding her sense of self-worth and fulfilling her artistic ambitions.
