Overview

"Along Came My Friend" is a storybook about a little girl learning about biblical marriage as her whole family joins that journey. It's written for families who are willing to question what they've been taught and discover what Scripture actually says about patriarchy, marriage, and family. You will see the beauty and righteousness of God's design when people let go of cultural deception-an invitation to experience a story about sisterhood, godly leadership, children raised in truth, and women who find their place under loving covering rather than lonely independence.

From the Introduction:

Whether we like it or not, our culture informs our understanding of what love and marriage are about, and what a little girl is supposed to expect when she grows up. Culture has little girls grow up believing they are little princesses who will one day find a man, a single one, who will go on his knees to submit to them, have eyes for no one else, and keep them madly in love in a perpetual state of happily-ever-after bliss. And if that ecstasy fades? Leave him. There's another man out there who will treat them like the goddesses they are and finally make them happy.
During my upbringing, the message was different but equally damaging: Men were not trustworthy, so I needed to be independent, work, and have my own life. If I didn't find my Prince Charming, I could be happy single, because having a man and children wasn't really necessary for a fulfilling life.
If you think this may be an exaggeration, pay critical attention to the movies, music, and romantic comedies, and to what the likes of Beyonc and Taylor Swift will tell our little girls if we let them absorb culture. Even when little girls practice homemaking, they learn to play house the prefabricated, unrealistic way - the perfect husband who only has eyes for them, a couple of perfect children, all while looking amazing all day long. Our innate biological desire for family is molded into an expectation that follows the fairy-tale formula, with the consolation prize of solitude.
The results are all around us: women in their thirties and forties, lonely and childless, many times, promiscuous and jaded. Men who have been told their masculinity was toxic and their contribution unimportant. Children growing up without fathers, or not being born at all. A generation taught that marriage is a burden rather than a blessing. All of this-the loneliness, the emasculation, the missing children-flows from one source: a culture that has forbidden the marriage structure Scripture normalizes.
But what if we've been telling the wrong story all along?
Scripture presents a different picture-the marriage structures of Abraham, Jacob, and David. Patriarchal households where godly men provided covering and leadership, where women found purpose in building their husbands' families in community, where children were raised in abundance rather than scarcity. This is not the story our culture dares to tell, but it is the story that built nations and blessed generations. However, the goal is not to show a story about the harsh realities of living counter-culturally in a hostile world. It's not about persecution, social stigma, or legal battles. That's not what our children need to see. They need to see the vision-what it looks like when biblical marriage works as God designed. They need to see fathers leading with wisdom, mothers building in unity, and children growing up surrounded by love and purpose. They need a story that shows them there's another way, even if the world isn't ready for it yet.
This is my counterattack to the Western culture of forced monogamy and feminism-the twin lies that have produced unloved women, emasculated men, and unborn babies. It's time for a different story.
