Others simply climb in through the kitchen window during a thunderstorm.In Animal Adventures at Home, ninety-four-year-old Elizabeth R. Hale looks back on a lifetime shared with the creatures who found their way into her family's top-floor apartment and, years later, her home in Florida. There is Turtle, who lived in a doll's bed her father turned into a tiny pond and who learned to come for treats at the sound of a whistle. There is Peter, the cheerful stray who hopped off a baggage car at the train station across the street. There is Bella, the clever black cat who rolled corn on the cob with one paw and took showers in the sink-and the stormy afternoon when three soaked mother cats arrived with nine kittens in tow. There is Spreckels, who seemed to understand English and flew to Florida in a carry-on bag without a peep. And there is Squirrel, a collector of glittering bracelets with no respect for freshly made pie crust.Told with warmth, gentle humor, and honesty about the goodbyes that come with loving animals, these short true stories recall a time when kids pushed a cat in a bicycle basket through the park and a kind bus driver would stop traffic to bring them home. Charmingly illustrated by Betsi McKay, this collection is a joy to read aloud and share across generations.", "item_img_path" : "https://covers3.booksamillion.com/covers/bam/9/79/831/883/9798318839382_b.jpg", "price_data" : { "retail_price" : "10.99", "online_price" : "10.99", "our_price" : "10.99", "club_price" : "10.99", "savings_pct" : "0", "savings_amt" : "0.00", "club_savings_pct" : "0", "club_savings_amt" : "0.00", "discount_pct" : "10", "store_price" : "" } }
