Music Reviews
Editorial Reviews
Rolling Stone (9/20/69, p.36) - "...an album of vitality and mystery....Bongo Joe reveals his philosophy in deeply echoing chant, singing over the boomings of his improvised drumsticks....[his] monologues and dialogues depict a satirical, humorous view of modern man in plastic America..."
The Wire (p.68) - "Insightful and wryly humorous, his 'songs' were more like stories, delivered in a declamatory proto-rap style which would often turn into a conversation with himself, rhyming randomly like a latterday Lee Perry."
Dirty Linen (Dec./Jan. 92-93, p.53) - "...highly original, elemental, sometimes risque folk blues songs from and about the streets..."
The Fader (p.154) - "Banging out repetitive rhythms like a juju master, he drew on his mundane daily experiences to form his sometimes serious (but usually hilarious) lyrics..."
