The Book of the Method : A Public Introduction to the Oikonomia of Pulses
Overview
A machine may be right about you. Does that give it the right to decide for you?
Technological systems can record behavior, correlate information, and anticipate decisions. But who authorizes that knowledge to exercise power over a person?
In EL LIBRO DEL M TODO, Alexandro Abadal-Lienas presents ENERGYS and the Oikonomia of Pulses: a conceptual proposal exploring how human acts can be recognized without automatically turning them into identity, reputation, or authority over the future.
Does greater capability mean greater authority?Just because a system can do something does not mean it should be authorized to do it. The book examines the relationship between information, identity, privacy, autonomy, and institutional power. It asks how we can prevent a prediction about our behavior from conditioning what we are still free to decide.
What does ENERGYS propose?ENERGYS explores an architecture of limited recognition: allowing certain acts to be acknowledged under defined conditions without turning that record into a permanent classification of the person. Its principles include:
Recognition without appropriation: recording that an event occurred without reducing the person involved to that event.
Capability and authority: distinguishing what is technically possible from what requires legitimacy and limits.
Privacy and autonomy: restricting the uses of information so that the past does not automatically determine the future.
Oikonomia of Pulses: exploring forms of reciprocity in which a contribution can be acknowledged without necessarily becoming a price, accumulated reputation, or interpersonal debt.
Design and governance: considering reversibility, the ability to exit, auditability, and limits on the concentration of power.
ENERGYS is not presented as a currency intended to replace money, nor as a technical solution whose effectiveness has been demonstrated. It is a proposal to explore and test other ways of defining the capabilities of an infrastructure while preserving human free will.
Who is this book for?For readers interested in artificial intelligence and technological ethics; the philosophy of technology; privacy and data governance; institutional economics and reciprocity; digital systems design; and interdisciplinary research. No programming background or specialized knowledge of economics is required. The book introduces its fundamental principles and questions.
Why does it matter?Because it shifts the question from how to build more capable systems to what powers they should have, what limits they need, and how we can verify that those limits work. The book does not demand allegiance to ENERGYS. It invites readers to investigate its foundations, debate its contradictions, and revise or abandon any hypotheses that fail to hold up.
Technology can expand what we are able to do. The question is what authority we are willing to grant it.
EL LIBRO DEL M TODO invites us to consider that decision before treating it as settled.
Alexandro Abadal-Lienas explores the relationship between technology, human autonomy, and legitimate authority, with particular attention to the limits that must accompany systems capable of recording and anticipating behavior.
