While these emerging terms may not be included in dictionaries, they inevitably become part of our frequent hearing. Such language carves out distinct circles, erecting high linguistic walls between parents and children, across generational colleagues, and among friends with different interests-leading to misunderstandings and barrier. After years of research, an academic team from the Chinese Department of Peking University has traced the core context and origins of online cultural vocabulary. They have compiled 274 key entries covering six major areas of network culture: otaku culture, fan culture, female-oriented content, online literature, gaming, and social buzzwords.
