Pictographs Does Writing Still Have a Future?/象 : 形文字系列:书写还有未来
Overview
The First Chinese Translation of a Masterpiece by Vil m Flusser, a Leading Media Philosopher 媒介哲学大师弗卢塞尔代表作首度中译 This book is a forward-looking work first published in German in 1987 and has since been translated into numerous languages. In it, Flusser argues that, in the sense of arranging letters and words, writing has no future-everything currently communicated through writing, as well as much that cannot be conveyed through it, can be recorded and transmitted in other ways. To find common ground across millennia of texts and practices, Flusser revisits the earliest forms of writing and related scribal practices, while also looking ahead to the ongoing digitization of text. In Flusser's view, despite its limitations compared to digital media, writing remains the foundation of historical consciousness, the idea of progress, and critical inquiry. Although the text as a cultural form may ultimately become redundant, the art of writing will not disappear; instead, it will evolve into new modes of thought and expression.
