Breast Cancer Characterization Computer-Aided Diagnostic System for Breast MRI Mass Classification
Overview
Recently, death from breast cancer has dropped significantly in the United States due to early detection and effective treatment. DCE-MRI has emerged as a promising technique for detecting, diagnosing, and staging breast cancer. Computer-aided detection systems have proven to be useful for evaluating the large number of images produced. The next logical step is to implement computer-aided diagnostic systems. This book describes the development of a computer-aided diagnostic (CAD) research system for investigating breast MRI masses. It shows that computerized algorithms are reliable, have the potential to reduce inter and intra-observer variations, radiologist workload, and facilitate image interpretation. With an ever growing number of images and expanding clinical applications, CAD systems might play an integral role in breast imaging.
