Overview
With The Chinks is a historical novel written by Daryl Klein and published in 1919. The story is set in China during the Boxer Rebellion in 1900, and follows the journey of a young American named Tom Winston who travels to China to work as a missionary. Tom is initially nave and idealistic, but soon finds himself caught up in the violent conflict between the Boxers and the foreign powers. He is taken captive by a group of Chinese rebels, but eventually manages to escape and join forces with a group of Chinese soldiers who are fighting against the Boxers. Through his experiences, Tom comes to understand the complexities of Chinese culture and politics, and develops a deep respect for the people he once viewed as ""chinks."" The novel is a powerful exploration of cultural differences and the impact of imperialism on both the colonizers and the colonized. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
