Considering Going to a Us Graduate School? Discover How They Will Play You, and Think Twice!
Overview
This book is a "60-minutes"-like expos for students considering entering a US graduate school. US public Higher education is narcissistic and self-absorbed, and acts out destructively against its own students. In particular, we have had 50 years of over-production of graduate students. A higher education degree used to be of lifelong value. These days, University Ph.D. diplomas are mass-printed, are deflated in value, are inflated in cost, are awarded in a jobs-poor market (other than teaching-only education), and no longer lead to a better life. The US has developed a culture of Credentialism: a given job over time requires higher and higher levels of education for entry level positions. This is called credential-inflation or education-inflation. A "bubble" was created to serve the selfish interests of faculty and administrators: their own cushy existence In addition, most Ph.D.'s these days end up in education (NOT research faculty as advertised ) for which they are not trained. For reference, I have included a glimpse of what working in a teaching-only institution is like. May the buyer beware
