Overview
Workmanship restorer and incredible covert operative Mr. Allon has slipped unobtrusively into London to go to a gathering at the Courtauld Display commending the arrival of a taken self-representation by Vincent van Gogh. However, he finds himself pursuing a formidable and perilous new adversary when an old friend from the Devon and Cornwall Police asks for his assistance with a puzzling murder investigation. Charlotte Blake, a well-known Oxford professor of art history, was the victim. She used to live under an assumed identity in the same seaside village where Gabriel used to live on weekends. A twisted serial killer who has been terrorizing the Cornish countryside appears to have carried out her assassination. However, there are a few obvious inconsistencies, such as a missing mobile phone. She also left behind a cryptic three-letter cypher on a notepad in her study. After learning that Professor Blake was looking for a stolen Picasso that was worth more than $100 million, Gabriel decides to go after the painting in the only way he knows how: with six Impressionist canvases he made himself and an unlikely team of operatives that includes a world-famous violinist, a beautiful master thief, and a deadly contract killer who became a British spy. The outcome is a snazzy and stunningly engaging secret that moves at lightning speed from the precipices of Cornwall to the charmed island of Corsica and, at last, to a stunning peak on the actual doorstep of 10 Bringing down Road.
