Overview
This book comprises four chapters of black & white pen & ink drawings, each one with as few words as possible. The artist wanted the viewer, reader to be able to identify each page from the words alone.
Drawn in a large sketchbook on high quality cartridge paper, on both sides of the page, to create a genuine sense of reading a book but one in pictures.
The sixty seven drawings can be seen & appreciated individually, yet were created as a sequence, narrating the artist's imagination, personal thoughts & observations about events since 2020. Deenagh told me she rarely returned to work on a page & writing the words took longer & was more complicated than anticipated.
The actual story in this book is open to interpretation. I suggest it raises questions about what art can tell us about society, - about the relationship of the individual within the community, & the role & reach of government.
The art is an imaginative weave of intriguing beauty, oddity, individuality, drawing on many sources - past art, contemporary events, history, modern imagery from magazines, newspapers & adverts.
