Movie Reviews

Synopsis:
Set in barely postcolonial Ceylon, the film stars Elizabeth Taylor as Ruth Wiley, a recent bride who has just arrived from England with her husband, John (Peter Finch), an immensely wealthy tea planter. Before long, Ruth realizes that John is far more interested in playing indoor polo with his cronies than he is in her, and she becomes involved with plantation overseer Dick Carver (Dana Andrews). Wiley's indifference to his wife is matched by his contempt for nature, which will soon prove disastrous.

Notes:
Theatrical release: April 21, 1954. Shooting location: Sri Lanka. Actress Vivien Leigh was originally scheduled to star in ELEPHANT WALK but was replaced by Elizabeth Taylor because of an illness. Leigh, however, can still be seen in certain long shots. After several British movies, actor Peter Finch made his American debut in this film.
