The Exception
Overview
An SS captain (Jai Courtney) is assigned as the new head of security for Germany's former ruler, Kaiser Wilhelm II (Christopher Plummer), who was exiled to the Netherlands after the defeat of World War I. However, the position is really a cover for his pursuit of a spy who is sabotaging the Nazi war effort. Lily James, Janet McTeer, and Eddie Marsan co-star. Directed by David Leveaux, THE EXCEPTION was adapted from the novel THE KAISER'S LAST KISS by Alan Judd.

Movie Reviews
Reviews:
"This tony drawing-room period piece, anchored by Christopher Plummer’s wily take on an aging German monarch who longs for the past and abhors the present, is served with a side of steamy interludes of sex-laced intrigue." - 06/02/2017 RogerEbert.com
"THE EXCEPTION is a handsomely mounted World War II-era romantic thriller, enlivened by vibrant performances and vivid sexual encounters and inspired by a little-known footnote to history, the story of a ruler who left but never went away." - 06/01/2017 Los Angeles Times
"[E]fficiently directed by David Leveaux from a screenplay by Simon Burke....THE EXCEPTION is a diverting and occasionally exciting film..." - 06/01/2017 New York Times
"Elegant, well-acted....THE EXCEPTION pokes fun at Hitler and his lockstep followers, while presenting its German protagonists as charming pacifists who’d rather be feeding the ducks and chasing skirts than waging genocide and world domination." - 06/02/2017 Variety
