The Fallen : Ashenreach, Book One
Overview
Nine nights before the Fall, a star passed over Belava. Then came the thing that had been following it, a winged shape made of ash, and in a single day Belava burned. Of Jasnov, the town of orchards and white stone, nothing was left but two thin columns of smoke. Three hundred people set out after it. They walked for most of a week before the night threw them into a crater in a land called Ashenreach, and only a handful of them climbed out.
Ilan the smith carries his master's hammer at his belt and keeps quiet about what he knows. In the ruins, Grash the orc heard a wild goblin say something she has been told never to repeat. The valley where they fell is split between the Crown's castle and the camp of the Clans, held together by nothing but an old truce written on paper. And far to the east, in the throat of a dead mountain, the one who burned Belava is waiting over a red light.
Book One of the Ashenreach trilogy: a dark fantasy of ash and iron, of a promise that costs more than it was worth, and of a star that fell where it should not have.
