Movie Reviews

Reviews:
"Landon and co-screenwriter Michael Kennedy have latched onto a winning concept, pairing the body-swap conceit with serial killer thrills..." - 11/04/2020 Hollywood Reporter

"A delightful mutant hybrid of two seemingly incongruous teen movie genres, cheeky Blumhouse satire FREAKY might just as well have been called FREAKY FRIDAY THE 13TH." - 11/12/2020 Variety

3 stars out of 4 -- "[T]he most noteworthy accomplishment of FREAKY is how gleeful it makes one feel that something so proudly old-fashioned can exist today without feeling dated." - 11/13/2020 RogerEbert.com

"FREAKY opens with an extended homage to the genre, complete with multiple killings, elaborate gore, and an affectionate head-tilt toward a famous Michael Myers gesture from the very first HALLOWEEN." - 11/09/2020 A.V. Club

"Written by Landon and Michael Kennedy, this genre-straddler gives throwaway characters inventively messy ends and its two leads the freedom to experiment." - 11/12/2020 New York Times

4 stars out of 5 -- "FREAKY's supporting cast excels, but it’s the two leads who cut the deepest. Post-swap, Newton revels in the role of remorseless, single-minded serial killer, finding the link between horror and humour necessary for the film to work as well as it does." - 11/11/2020 Total Film

"[Newton] is winningly game as the girl whose sweet blond exterior now masks a man who wields a butcher knife or a bandsaw as casually as a scrunchie." - 11/10/2020 Entertainment Weekly

"[A]n unashamedly silly splatter-fest that extracts great mileage from a very simple premise." - 06/28/2021 Empire

"It’s a recipe for lurid, inventively gory fun, and to an extent, it delivers." - 07/04/2021 The Guardian
