Music Reviews
Editorial Reviews
Rolling Stone (pp.705-106) - 3.5 stars out of 5 -- "[The tunes] offer elegant patter, sharp melodies and details that are both dead-on expressive and literary."
Spin (p.108) - 4 stars out of 5 -- "[With] languid tempos and quiet full-band arrangements."
Entertainment Weekly (p.87) - "[H]e incorporates offbeat percussion and foreboding cellos to create a nostalgic lament to lost love." -- Grade: B
Q (p.109) - 3 stars out of 5 -- "GET LONELY is a laid-back affair clouded with melancholy, bearing traces of The Magnetic Fields' bone-dry humour..."
Uncut (p.91) - 4 stars out of 5 -- "[A] quieter, more intimately acoustic record....[It] probes the nooks and crannies of post-relationship blues."
Magnet (p.103) - "[I]t's quite haunting. More than any Mountain Goats album, GET LONELY sustains a very particular mood that's discreetly articulated by spare accompaniment from bassist Peter Hughes, keyboardist Franklin Bruno and cellist Erik Friedlander."
No Depression (p.129) - "[E]ven more inward-looking....Anyone going through a breakup might not want to hear anything else..."
Mojo (Publisher) (p.103) - 3 stars out of 5 -- "[A] series of stirring picturesque tales....The songs are redeemed by his breathtaking lyrical precision and eye for detail."
