How did "Boss Jock" Gary Arizona get his start in AM radio? Take a Magic Carpet Ride back to the 1960s, to the days of dreamers, schemers, and rock 'n' roll screamers
In the spring of 1967, he was Chuck Moorman, a shy, overweight, and nerdy 16-year-old, wanting to be a Top-40 DJ "in the worst way." He also wants a job, a car, and a girlfriend. Thanks to some lucky breaks, he gets a job, a car, and finds a mentor in KMFR DJ Ray Waters. Soon, there's an opportunity for a weekend rock and roll show on Ray's station, KMFR.
But Chuck has a past of public ridicule, thanks to his weight and nerdiness. To hide the fact that it's really him on the air, he creates the pseudonym of "Gary Arizona." It's a great idea, and he's a hit Chuck basks in "his" popularity and wonders if his secret identity is still a good idea. Then, his dream girl suggests she's attracted to the new DJ, forcing Chuck to come up with a plan to reveal his secret and win her over.
Will his plan succeed, or will he "lose her-to a summer love?"
